After years and years of being a chronically late makeup lover, I've pretty much mastered the 5-10 minute face! The time range there is purposeful, because really, it depends on how much time you have! I can get through the basics in five minutes but if I have a bit longer, I add a few things! I'm going to share those steps with you today (as I completely unintentionally listen to Step by Step by New Kids On The Block.)
A quick note, the 5-10 minute time-frame does NOT include the skincare, but I wanted to talk about it anyway!
Prep!
Skincare and prepping your skin is really important. Even if I don't have time to put on ANY makeup, I always make sure to do my full skincare routine!
I use mostly Ole Henriksen products along with my PMD Clean cleansing device.
Also I've recently used up all of my serum (yeah, it's THAT good) and am now trying the
Origins Ginzing Into the Glow Brightening Serum, which has similar ingredients and goes well with the Ole Henriksen products! So keep an eye out for a review on that soon!
Step 1 - Foundation
When I say "foundation" I mean it in the sense that you are creating the foundation of your makeup. I like to use a tinted moisturizer and a medium-high coverage concealer, depending on how tired I am. I will say, I have recently ordered a new concealer that's a little less coverage but also more hydrating that I think will better match the finish of the tinted moisturizer!
I grab some of my
Urban Decay Naked Skin One and Done Hybrid Complexion Perfector and pump it in my hand and apply to my face with my fingers. You can also use a blending sponge, but I find fingers are faster! Then I take my
Tarte Shape Tape Concealer (honestly, the only one I even like lol) and put it under my eyes, on my chin, nose and forehead. I do this partially to cover redness and dark circles but it also brightens up the center of the face!
Step 2 - Bring me to life
Yes, that was as much a nod to the Evanescence classic and the importance of this step. Right now, we have flat foundation face. There's no shadow or color in the face and that's no bueno! Is it okay if you don't have time for anything else? Sure. Is it ideal? Nah. So we just want to bring the face to life with bronzer and blush!
I usually just do what I'd normally except much quicker and more haphazardly. I grab my brush and bronzer of choice and just go to town, focusing on the "3s" of the face. If you're not sure what that is, think temple, cheek bones and jawline. I also like to lightly brush the sides of my nose and under my lower lip.
Then I just take a bit of blush and swipe it over my cheekbone to lift the face.
Right now, I've been really liking the
Ace Beaute Bronzed in Paradise Palette. I like that it gives me choices to customize how dark I want my bronzer to be. I like to mix colors as well! For blush, I have been unhealthily obsessed with the same palette for over a year. I have a LOT of blushers but this one is definitely my favorite:
Jouer's Cheeky Summer Blush Bouquet Dual Blush Palette. I'm just...obsessed. The colors are magic on me and it's almost always in my makeup bag! But I digress.
EXTRA AF TIP: If and I mean IF I have extra time, I MAY grab whatever is leftover on my highlighter brush and hit my the high points of my cheekbones. This is very extra and totally unecessary, especially since we have a fairly dewey base and already have a natural sheen. But if you're feeling extra, my favorite highlighter is the Dose of Colors and ILUVSARAHII collaboration in Sol Mate. It doesn't look like it's available anymore, but what I usually look for is a highlighter that is more of a satin finish and gives a natural glow rather than something more glittery. #ProTip.
Step 3 - Open your eyes!
Considering if you only have five minutes to make yourself up, it's probably first thing in the morning, so it's time to open up those eyes! The eyes may be the window to the soul, but the eyeBROWS are the frame! I usually just grab a brow gel and swipe it over those bad boys. Right now I've been liking the
Anastasia Beverly Hills Dip Brow Gel. Another good one is the
Benefit Gimme Brow+ Volumizing Eyebrow Gel.
EXTRA AF TIP: If I have time, I quickly swipe some Benefit 3D BROWtones Eyebrow Enhancer over my brows to help them better match my hair...which is probably on Day 5 and in a messy bun.
Next, I like to just grab my fluffy shadow brush that I use for my transition shades and use whatever is left over to get some color in my crease.
EXTRA AF TIP: To brighten up the eyes and make you actually look semi-awake, put some nude or off white liner in you waterline!
Step 4 - Set it and FORGET IT!
Finally we are just about done! If I think of it/have time, I swipe on some chapstick or lip balm (gotta fight those mask-induced dry lips!) Then I spray some setting spray and I'm golden! My go to setting spray is
Urban Decay's All Nighter. No surprise there. And that's all folks!
If you add in those few extras I tossed in there, you may clock in closer to 10 minutes, But when I say "haphazardly," I am not at all kidding. This is a "how fast can I get this on my face" kind of routine and if you trust the process, you will come out looking fresh faced and ready to go!
XO, Briana
