What's Disney World like with coronavirus safety protocols?

Crowds were light on Main Street USA!

We waited a very long time, but the day finally came for us to return to our happy place. We thought long and hard, weighed the pros and cons and made the educated decision that we would be safe going to Disney World just for the day.

Sky and I are annual passholders, so we are already paying for entry to the park. We figured we'd make the drive and if we were uncomfortable, we'd just turn around and come home.

Thankfully, I'm happy to say that wasn't the case. We chose Magic Kingdom, as through my research, it seemed to be the least crowded of the four parks.

Although we were only there for about six hours, we were able to get on the rides we wanted to get on, get our snack fix and see the freshly renovated castle.

Yes, I stood out in pouring rain to get this shot!

Overall, I felt safe 99% of the time. Here are some of my takeaways.

Plenty of safety protocol was in place. We saw partitions, constant cleaning and hand sanitizer at every entrance and exit. There were also signs reminding people of the mask rules and social distancing markers in all of the lines, even in the stores.

Another thing I found interesting is that they're literally going through every ride photo and deleting ones with anyone not wearing a mask. Now that may not be enough to make people want to follow the rules, but shows that Disney is doing anything and everything to strongly encourage people to follow their protocol.

We steered clear of anything that would put us inside for an extended period of time, like Philharmagic and It's a Small World. The only time we were indoors for a bit was to eat. We chose Cosmic Ray's since it was a very large space and people were well spaced out. Plus we needed to cool off for a bit without our masks. I'd say it was worth it.

The biggest thing I'd say about staying safe is being alert and taking care of yourself. At the end of the day, you can't make other people follow the rules. Most people were really good and following all of the rules, but I did see a handful of people wearing their masks below their noses while walking from place to place. We made sure to keep our distance from them, moving away whenever we felt like we were too close to another group. We also used hand sanitizer constantly and washed our hands whenever we were near a restroom.

Masked and ponchoed up!

Since we've been to the park, things have changed a bit, and I will note those changes when we return, as we plan to this month. But overall, understand that even though the Disney parks seem to be relatively safe, you are still taking a risk. So just make sure you are taking as many precautions as you can to keep yourself and loved ones safe.

If you're comfortable going to a store or supermarket, then you should be fine at Disney.

One last thing to consider — Florida summers are HOT. We're in early September with "feels like" temperatures in the hundreds. This makes wearing a mask difficult. So if you do plan to brave the parks, be sure to plan out time for breaks in the A/C. You WILL need it.

XO, Briana
